Baby It’s Cold Outside

SNOW TUESDAY
It has finally snowed on the day I do not have school! Waking up this morning was like waking up to a Christmas morning. Slightly chilly in the house… a slight scent of peppermint in the air, me bundling up even more into the covers, thinking of what time it is. Should I get up, start the day… nah, a few more minutes of warmth…

My husband had a meeting this morning and got a promotion! It is kind of interesting– the other day I vaguely dreamt something about him getting a promotion… I am so incredibly proud of him. The most hard working person I know.

Today is a celebration day.  Today is going to be great.

What are you up to?  Is it snowing where you are?

Lots of thought went into purchasing these glasses. I knew I wanted a crystal or semi crystal pair and when Warby Parker came out with their collection for Winter 2015, I fell in love with these.  Upon trying them on, I was not sure if they  were “the ones” but after browsing through numerous sites and checking optical stores (Oliver Peoples, SEE eyewear, OWL optics) I came to a conclusion that I really do love how Baker in Glacier Grey looked on me.

Monday, I got these beauties in the mail!! I can finally see again.

Also, this week the Windsor Collection came out with a couple of new totally awesome frames… and Warby Parker sent me the copy of their promotional email in which they are featuring one of my Instagram photos (it will be viewed by 400-500k people). WHOA! How did I get so lucky?

Today we did COLDER BOLDER 5K. The open race started at 9:50 am. The whole start line was filled with blue/purple beanies of various ages. It was a chilly morning which was perfect for a little run. The whole run wraps around the University of Colorado Campus and ends in the Balch Field House where we got some goodies like beer, EVO burritos, Noosa yogurt, and etc.  Fun fun!

Growing Out Hair

IMG_5027
Today I am happy. I am so happy that I could cry.  Life is truly beautiful when you just focus on the positive things and let go of the things that have been weighing you down. Amazing!

On the other note– my hair has been growing out… finally! I often look back at the photos from last year and miss my long brown hair!!! So I am making a pact with myself that I will not cut my hair until it is long again! And no more bang cutting! What is it with me and my every fall– I get my bangs cut! Do any of you do the same?

I got my nose pierced when we came back from the honeymoon!! I had my nose pierced in high school for a few weeks until it fell out and I kind of gave up on it.  Now it has been a little over 3 months and I love it! I recently put a rose gold hoop in. It almost blends in with my skin.  Ahhh so fun!

How crazy that it is already December? Time flies so fast!! Christmas season… work parties,  COLDER BOLDER, New Year’s party in downtown Denver… so many cool things coming up.

Well I guess that is all my lovelies!

xoxo

Our Wedding Day

It is late Saturday evening.  As I am going through the photos of my wedding day, clicking “copy and paste” to the “BLOG” folder,  all the glimpses of my wedding day come together. I am thinking to myself that the best day of my life went by so quickly… I never believed or really understood what it meant when someone would say that the wedding day is just one big blur… It is so true!  You prepare this whole time and vroooom… it’s gone.

The weekend after Frederick and I came back from our European honeymoon, we decided to go CAMPING!! Of course, I choose something further away from home (Boulder, CO) and 4.5 hours later we were at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Colorado never fails to surprise me… like how do we get giant sand dunes near the mountains? Disappeared body of water that left huge piles of sand?? Different wind patterns? I’m not a geologist so I had to look it up! Pretty interesting explanation of their formation.  Anyway I will stop my rambling…

We stopped at Piñon Flats Campground which has an amazing view of the dunes.  The sites are pretty amazing too– large enough to put a couple of tens and each has a fire pit.  NIGHTS are so cold! Brrrr

TIP: Get to the campground early (preferably before 10) as it gets full by lunch time.

The Home Stretch: Tallinn + Helsinki

Streets of Tallin
The last three days of our trip were spent in Tallinn and Helsinki.  Originally we have planned to spend two days in Tallinn and two days in Helsinki.  However, that did not happen and I’m kind of glad (we decided to spend an extra day in Riga).

Buildings of Tallinn

First of all, I must say – shopping in Tallinn is so cheap!  A complete night and day price wise from Helsinki.  Helsinki was extremely expensive..but why? My guesses people get paid more there?  If you  know the answer to this, please be kind and enlighten me and others who might be reading this.  Another weird observation from Helsinki is that the stores are kind of boring? I don’t mean the mall, the mall was fun… I meant the grocery type stores.  There was nothing unique… Like in Stockholm, Paris, Riga, and Tallinn we found all kind of candy and little knick knacks particular to that country/city.  Also, the stores in Helsinki seemed modest– the magazine stand had nothing that a child could not see (no Cosmopolitan type magazines).  Interesting! I liked that!

RIGA, MY HOMETOWN

IMG_3964
Back in 2005, when I was 15, I moved from Riga to United States. I was able to go back to visit when I was 19 and last August, ten years after initially leaving Riga, I had an amazing opportunity to visit again… this time with a companion- my husband! I cannot express enough how meaningful it was for me to be able to show him where I grew up, where I went to school, my favorite yummies that I am unable to get here in United States… I was able to share with him my home…home, I miss everyday.  Now every time I say,- “oh in Riga…” he knows exactly what I mean.  So here is a little “recap” of our time in Riga, Latvia so you can get a glimpse of what home was for me.

We flew into Riga at 11 pm and were fortunate enough to be picked up from the airport by my friend’s aunt (Mila).  When we arrived at my friend’s (Noeminj) house, we were sweetly welcomed by her family, and spent another hour catching up and drinking hot tea with cookies and such.
