Urban Bohemian // Living Room

GREAT ROOM DESIGN
You guys, I am taking ID Professional Practices class at RMCAD that has been so inspirational to me and we always do fun activities in it like mock up interviews, working on our resumes, cover letters, visual boards, learning about different cultures and how they differ in business world… yeah and we also go to visit local design firms, museums, and see different speakers… it has been so inspiring!

Last week, the assignment was so great for quick brainstorming- so useful for quick client meetings as most of the time clients do not have time to sit and wait on you to come up with the design ideas. So we were assigned a particular room of the home and had to write up a quick client profile and then present 3 design ideas that the client can see and get inspired by as well.

I was assigned the great room/living room area. Automatically, I thought of the client that is young and creative and that would like a space that he/she could easily relax or entertain a group of people in.

I do not know why, but lately I have been gravitating towards more of the urban bohemian looks for my designs therefore, to make it quick on myself– we only had an hour to “design” and create boards– I pulled all my photos and pieces from Urban Outfitters. Yep, my favorite place.

So here are my little brainstorming ideas that each feature that same vibe of Urban Bohemian look yet showcasing a certain color palette or shape.

GREAT ROOM DESIGN 2

In this one, I really was obsessing over having some sort of life in the living area by having tons of plants and/or minty, mustard, rugged color scheme. I just love the lightness that these create– kind of makes your mind rest.

GREAT ROOM DESIGN1
In this visual board, I really wanted to play with color and geometric shapes that the furniture or patterns create through out the space. There are triangles, circles, rectangles, textures… you name it… it is all here. I am personally in love with that round coffee table (we are purchasing this one for our own living room soon..yay)

And the very top board (Breathe Mountains) was kind of a mixture of the two other boards… I wanted to give a client some color yet keep it airy with using lots of white.  I love how blues and teals match… and that woven rug… to die for! This is exactly what mountains feel like- breathable, tons of texture and natural tones (blues, greens, grays).

Well my fellow designers, I hope this was somewhat inspiring for you as it was to me!! It totally made me want to redesign my own space!

Cheers,

An Apology Never Gotten

“Life becomes easier when you learn to accept an apology you never got.” – Robert Brault

So many of us desire to hear an apology from someone that deeply wounded us. So many of us don’t get it. Why do these two little words hold so much power? “I’m sorry”… “I’M SORRY”… and just like that a heartfelt apology lifts the pain that held you down for such a long time  and your whole being is able to rest… to see the good things that surrounded you the whole time. But how does one go about an apology that has never been received? Do you pull your hair in anger and exhaustion for waiting for one?  How long can it last?

Have you ever experienced that?

I know I have.

18 Weeks

Yesterday was a pleasant surprise.

We had our prenatal appointment– just the regular check-up… or so I thought.  Upon entering the room I quickly noticed the ultrasound machine and automatically husband and I were checking if it was on (it wasn’t…)

The midwife came in… greeted us and after the regular questions of how are you… have you felt the baby move… she picked up a doppler and said, “Let’s take a listen.” I looked up at the ultrasound machine and casually blurted out that it is such a tease to have it here and not be able to see the baby!! And guess what guys? She smiled and said oh then let’s take a look!!

We got to see our little one after not seeing it for almost 10 weeks! It has grown! It had tiny arms and tiny legs… moving up a storm in my belly.  It blew us a little kiss with its tiny hand.  God, I am so in love already! My midwife continued to show us- or here is the little heart and this and that… then she continued to try to move it… she was trying to see the sex of the baby! Finally, the baby moved… and we found out what we’re having!! I cannot stop smiling!

For you guys… we will announce it on April 5th!

Today has been the best day since the new 8 weeks of classes started! I am loving my schedule and classes, especially Interior Design Professional Practices class! The first day our instructor brought tons of design magazines and we had to make visual boards that show our style as a designer.  Super fun!

2015 Monthly Playlists

2015 Monthly Playlists
This year, I have been quite entertained with creating monthly Spotify playlists. It is in a way a music “diary” that to this day, when the tune comes on somewhere, it takes me right back to that month… I mostly used the
“browse” section of the Spotify that would recommend artists/albums to me. Another thing that I got interested in was the Last.fm site and of course tweeting my weekly top three most played artists. So fun!

So I hope you enjoy the playlists below… and if you do not have Spotify, you should totally sign up!

Tuesday Vibes

tuesday
So I have been officially on my Winter Break! It was going lovely– catching up on my Russian show, reading, sleeping, meeting up with friends… until I woke up this morning with a horrible ear infection! Yikes!

I do not like going to the doctors– they are kind of useless sometimes… So I decided to take it upon the home remedies to clear this up! I know that heat and oil can help, so I mixed up some nifty drops that so far has been helping me to feel better. I used a few drops of each– tea tree oil (natural antibacterial), olive oil, rubbing alcohol, and grapefruit seed oil… because why not? After mixing it up, I warmed it up and dropped a few drops in my right ear… and took a nap.

My go to tea when I have a cold is peppermint with honey.

I feel a bit better. I hope it goes away before next week..

Stay warm,
